IBM Rational License Administrator
IBM Rational License Key Server is the tool to support the management of floating or token licenses.
IBM Rational License Key Administrator is the GUI to the RLKS.
You have the license server (RLKS) and the license client (RLKA).
The RLKS and RLKA do not need a separate license.

The Rational License Key Administrator is the client which can connect to the server to view the active licenses.
LMTOOLS gives a CLI interface to list and query the license server.
The following actions will show the usage of licenses on a remote lic server.
cd "\Program Files\IBM\RationalRLKS\common"
Select Service/License File
Select Configuration using License File
Keyin your license machine email@example.com
Select the Server Status Tab
Select the Perform Status Enquiry
One can check the license usage via:
lmutil lmstat -a -c firstname.lastname@example.org > /tmp/unfilterfile.txt
findstr Users /tmp/unfilterfile.txt /tmpfilterfile.txt

A basic installation of the server:
- Unzip the file (eg file C11LVML.zip).
- Start setup.exe
- Select IBM Rational license Administrator (??)
- Select Next (3x)
- Select Accept (Software License Agreement)
- Select Next (Default folder location)
- Select Next (just the Rational License Server)
- Select Install
- Select Finish
In the IBM Rational License Key Administrator
- Select Settings - Client Server
- Select Use License Server
- Add Server
Now you can import a license file via:
- Select License Keys - Import License Key(s)
- Select the *.upd file
You might check the following:
- In the License Tools
- In the Config Services tab
Path to the lmgrd.exe file: C:\Program Files\Rational\Common\lmgrd.exe
Path to the license file: C:\Program Files\Rational\Common\rational_server_perm.dat
- On the server the license key admin should point to his self. This way
you will see twice the floating licenses.
