License Types

This website does not replace any official documentation.
It might support you in understanding and asking the right questions to the involved organizations.

IBM provide various types of licenses. Offered products might offer only a selection of license types.
Select the license of interest for a description:

The 'license' name is a combination of product name complemented with characteristics. Some of those are described here. Not all types might applicable for a certain product.

TIP! - Contact your sales representative to get the most out of your budget.
It's not easy to select the right set of products to cover all needed capabilities. Next to that you have to select the right (applicable) types of licensing.

In the RTC-family we have multiple licenses serving different roles:

Some official "descriptions" found in the IBM pricelist are (these are just 4 of the many RTC licenses possible):

D0GN4LL	- IBM Rational Team Concert Developer Floating User Single Install License + SW Subscription & Support 12 Months
E0AQ5LL	- IBM Rational Team Concert Developer Floating User Single Install Annual SW Subscription & Support Renewal

License Types Description

An official IBM description can be found here.

Authorized User

A license linked to a 'user'. The user may execute the application multiple times. The license is not transferable. It's implemented with an activation kit which 'unlocks' the application on the computer of the user.

Floating User

A license which is managed by a license manager. The license is only needed when a user starts the application. After closing the application the license will be returned to the license manager. The license is free for other users to be used.

Other License

Activation Kit

An activation kit is a small jar file which can be imported with the IIM. This results that the related application on that machine will not check anymore for a license. This does not mean you do not need a license. A valid license should be covering the Activation Kit usage. The customer is responcible for wise usage of these kits.

Agent Mode Licensing

Agent Mode Licensing is the way to leverage the central license server. This is applicable Floating licenses, Tokens and e.q. Simultaneous Server licenses. More is explained in a recently newly technote:

Agent Mode Licensing

License Managers
